The Audiology
unit at Ain Shams University was established in 1973. It is
affiliated to the otolaryngology department, faculty of
medicine, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt. The beginnings
of this unit is attributed to the pioneering work of Prof.
Dr. Salah Soliman. Guided by his leadership and vision, a
new medical field was created and spread to various parts of
Egypt and the middle East.
Over 30 years, the unit has expanded both in space and
personnel. It was at El-Demerdash university hospital when it
started in 1973, a second unit was founded in 1985 at Ain Shams
University Specialized Hospital (ASUSH).
The primary focus of the unit is hearing assessment of adults &
children. Over the years, other clinical activities were added.
They reflected the use of up to date technology in the following
topics or areas:

Electrophysiological tests.

Central hearing assessment &management.

Cochlear implantation (CI).
-
Advanced Hearing Aid fitting (H.A fitting).
-
Tinnitus.
-
Vestibular evaluation.
